So, Kona

So Kona, I like EV driving
I got used to the VESS sound you make
But it’s really a pain when you tell me
“Consider taking a break”

I like fast acceleration, you know it
And leaving BMWs in my wake
But that’s really no reason to tell me
“Consider taking a break”

Your ride is quiet, I love that
But your messages are a headache
So my next car just might be a Tesla
I consider that taking a break!

Sweaters

Sweaters. That’s her name.
Not sure how or why, but life can be
incongruent sometimes. We roll with it.

She’s quick. She’s tiny. She handles like
a skittish greyhound in a bouncy castle.
Worth it, to be able to zoom past the petrol stations,
cackling insanely, one bloodshot eye constantly
tracking back to the tell-tale range estimator.

We sprung for the “stylish” model (tacky),
an awkward collective self-pat on the back
for saving the planet, micron by micron.
That’s worn off.

But she still surprises me when she pulls up
in the crowd of big boy monster trucks, hulking
station wagons, and soccer vans. She slips in
silently, smug and certain, like a European cardigan
at an American Worst Xmas Sweater party.

I hop in, wonder at the beautiful ladies in my life,
hit the seat heater, and hold on for dear life
as the g-forces kick in and we zip off
into Portland’s nascent traffic jam

I Move the World

In an EV
I move the world
Around me
In the direction I choose

I make it move
Beyond the window at my pace
I can fast forward
To the parts that I long to see
Then I slow to have a better look
Collecting my energy
To move it all over again

When I move the world it’s
Like a hi-def movie in surround sound
No spitting fumes or angry rumbles
I can see it all in its own state
Undisturbed

When I stop the world, I don’t idle
I stop with purpose, in complete stillness
Grab the moment like a photograph
Then another then another, the frames
A movie of the world
Not giving to nor taking
Just being there

I make the decision to move on
I decide not to burn the world down behind me
I choose to keep moving
Past filling stations and oil changers and parts stores
Not sorry to see them in rear view
I decide where my go comes from
And where it will go to

The world moves with me
While I move the world

I Love My Leaf Beyond Belief

I love my Leaf
Beyond belief
A quick and quiet
Mobile riot

I don’t need
To hit the gas
No clouds of smoke
For cars I pass

I carve the curves
And rush the road
Although I stay
In ECO mode

The music’s good
And clear inside
A quiet talk
A silent ride

When backing up
I can be found
Just listen for the
Beeping sound

When sun comes up
The air is cool
My Leaf is always
Full of fuel

I once was true
To Subaru
But I love my Leaf
Beyond belief
